Q: What kind of face cleanser should I use with Retin A cream?
I was just prescribed Retin A cream for my face. What kind of cleanser should I use that will compliment the Retin A and not dry out my face? I prefer foaming cleansers. Thanks for your help!

A: My favorite is Aveeno Ultra-Calming Foaming Cleanser. It is very gentle & works well. I picked it up while on Accutane & continue to use it today.

Q: Can you mix Retin A cream with anyother cream?
I've been given Retin A for acne by my doctor. It's causing my face to become very dry so is it a good idea or the Retin A would be effective if i mix it with any other cream, such as oil of olay? Also, I'd to ask how do you get rid of blemishes left by acne?

A: I would apply the Retin A, wait for a few minutes and then apply the oil of olay over the top. Not sure it would be a good idea to actually mix them together.

Q: What are your experiences with Tretinoin Cream/Retin-A cream?
I have been using Tretinoin for about one week to treat acne. My skin is now breaking out all over, with timy red bumps AND big zits. Has anyone used this and can give recommendations? Did it work for you? If so, how long was this "it has to get worse before it gets better" phase?

A: I've been using it for over a year now and can't do without it.My skin got worst the first 2-3 weeks.Just give it a brake for 1-2 days to calm the redness but don't give up on the cream yet.For full results you must use it for about 3-6 months.I never had a clear skin in my life before. Now blackheads are gone,my pores are smaller an no acne.I even noticed a few fine lines gone.Keep it up,it will pay off

Q: The area above my lips is darkly pigmented. Will using retin-a cream help lighten it?
I won't use retin-a on my actual lips, but will using it on my upper lip help get rid of the darkly pigmented skin in that area? If not, what will?

A: I'm not sure but there are skin lightening creams (such products as Meladerm, SkinBright) that lighten dark discolored areas on the skin.

Q: What is the difference between retin-a cream & gel?
Need to know what's the difference between the two. I bought the gel and I'm a bit sorry I did. Seems to be a little messy. Which is better to use cream or gel? Thanks...

A: it depends how sensitive your skin is...gel tends to be a lot stronger.

Q: Does retin a cream help or hurt dark circles under the eyes.?
My eyes have dark circles under them. I don't know if it is a hereditary thing or what, but I am trying to get rid of them, or at least make them less visible. Most google results are conflicting, either saying retin a can be a cure or retin a can be a cause. I have a tube of retin a, so if it is a cure, that would be worth knowing. Any ideas as to which side is right?

A: If you want to know how to make the bags under your eyes disappear, this article gives you some proven treatments and solutions recommended by dermatologists and skin care specialists to fix your under-eye problems. http://www.glamouredited.com/skin/get_rid_of_under_eye_circles_and_puffiness.html good luck! Hope this helps : )

Q: Is a topical tretinoin cream (Retin-A) safe to use while nursing?
I read that applying this after childbirth will diminish the appearance of stretchmarks, but is it safe to use while breastfeeding?

A: It is not known if this drug is excreted in human milk. Because many drugs are excreted in human milk, caution should be exercised when administered to a nursing woman. I would either talk to your doctor or even a pharmacist just to be sure.

Q: Whats the best Retin-A cream to help acne and acne scars?
Whats the best perscribed Retin-A and the best non-perscription Retin-A? I've been using Retin-A Micro and it helps a little but I wanted to find something that I can get without a perscription thats just as strong or stronger. I also heard about Green Cream, has anyone tried this? Its pretty expensive but it is a strong Retin-A cream.

A: You won't find anything stronger than the original Retin-A prescription medicine. It does, however, come in 2 or 3 different strengths. Now that the patent has expired, generic Retin-A is available at a much lower cost than the original. Other than that, there are creams with retinol (related, but not the same). A decent OTC cream with this ingredient is Alpha-Hydrox.

Q: I want to start using Retin-A cream which is available only by prescription. If I go to a regular family?
doctor and tell him that I want this cream will he prescribe it for me? I am 38 years-old and I want to start a skin-care regimen.

A: He may or he may refer you to a dermatologist, if you have specific problems you want to deal with. If you just want general maintenance and preventative skin care, then an esthitician at a salon would be fine. We have one where I work- a salon/spa setting that does facials. They sell professional skin care products

Q: What are the uses of Retinoid cream (Retin A)?
Have you tried putting this on your face? Can you give me info on this? Is it useful for acne/acne scarring? Can any1 confirm this? Appreciate any insight

A: It is use for the treatment of acne as well as clear red marks, scars as well as wrinkles. It does so by peeling your skin which in simple terms exfoliation. If it is your initial use of Retin-A, you will find your skin getting red and sore like a sunburn. This is because Retin-A peels your face. It is this mechanism that helps get rid of acne by sloughing away old skin cells or cells on the surface faster as well as cells in the pore to prevent clogging of the pore so that bacteria cannot build up in them. That's why it helps acne by purging the pores. Intitial use of Retin-A may also induce breakout due to the purging, pushing all the bacteria to the surface but after a few weeks, you will start clearing up when your pores are clean. Because it gets rid of old cells as well to reveal newer cells underneath, it helps scars and wrinkles and red marks also. Retin-A is sensitive to sunlight so it is preferred to be used at night and application of sunblock is important in the day as it can make your skin sensitive also.

Q: Has anyone used cream Retin-A for wrinkle or laugh lines ?
How long it takes to see the result?

A: Two weeks. It will defiantly reduce the appearance of wrinkles.

Q: Can you tell me why Retin A cream would not work on feet, removing dead skin?
I understand its use for face neck and chest..just wondering why not feet, especially heels. Thanks

A: Actually, you can use it on the feet. I always use Retin A Cream on my feet....in fact I use it all over. But it can be drying, so I apply pure jojoba oil over the top. Hope this helps : )

Q: where do i get LASER or RETIN[CREAM]
where do i get a cream called LASER used in curing stretchmark.a serious answer please

A: Retin A requires a prescription and doctors supervision because it can cause birth defects. The risk is low but real.

Q: My skin is peeling from retin-a cream (maybe). Should I stop using it?
I have been using retin-a for about 4 months now, and I use it every other day. My skin never peeled like this before from it, but recently its been peeling and breaking out really badly. I don't know what's causing it; maybe stress? hormones? the retin-A acne medication? What should I do? I really don't want to stop using the cream it used to work really well for me before all these shenanigans.

A: The same thing happened to me! I just talked to my dermatologist and she had me switch to a lower strength. For now, just use a little less when applying it. And make sure you moisturize with lotion, I use Cetaphil and I highly recommend it. Good luck!

Q: Has anyone been using Retin A cream on their face for some time?
I've been using it for 2 years now, almost every night. Its meant to be the best for anti-aging. What do you think of it?

A: Dear Dark Girl, Retin-A is the most popular form of Vitamin-A derivative. It's became "news" when stories about mothers radding their teenage kids medicine cabinet to reverse the signs of aging. Retinoids are a far more effective formulation of Vitamin-A in prevent premature aging. I've put below a glossary on anti-aging terms that might help you. You'll be able to read the definition for both Retin-A and Retinoids. Gisele http://www.mybeautymatch.com
