Q: i'm taking antiretroviral drugs such zidovudine,lamivudine and aviranz(efavirenz)tablet for prevention of hiv?

A: Hello. I am sorry to hear what happened to you. It is normal to feel scared. The doctors are treating you appropriately. If you were infected with HIV, then the antiretrovirals will act early on the infection, decrease the spread to the cells of the body and a better outcome overall. It is unlikely that you were infected with HIV, but it is still possible so it is important to continue the treatment until you get retested. I hope you are getting counseling or something to help you cope with this unfortunate event. If you are not, ask your doctor what resources are available. A: Hi there, Sustiva (generic name efavirenz,) is an anti-HIV medication. It is in a category of HIV medicines called non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTIs). It i must be used in combination with other drugs to treat HIV. It is usually combined with two nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs). There is a new drug on the market combining Sustiva with 2 other NRTIs; the first of it's kind with respect to HIV. It is an interesting drug in that one of it's known side effects are bizzare dreams, strange thoughts and angry behaviour. For those who can cope or whom are lucky and do not experience it's side effects, it is a powerful drug, but the side effects are of a nature that many people often switch it for a different drug. Q: I have vivid dreams; What is the cause?
I have been diagnosed with HIV and now am taking medication. Recently I have been having vivid dreams; trouble sleeping and I got fired from my job because I tested positive for a cannaboid test. The only thing I am taking is some HIV medications which includes Efavirenz. I am also taking a NRTI which includes Etravirine. What is wrong with this picture? Good job Sandy! But I was also a naive patient and should not be taking Etravirine.

A: I don't think there is anything wrong with the picture you just illustrated, really. You are going through a lot emotionally and physically right now. That could be one major cause. Another cause could be the medication. Have you read the side effects? Perhaps vivid dreaming is a crazy side effect. On another note, I just watched a special on TV about vivid dreaming. A lot of it has to do with smells before laying down to go to sleep. It's been proven that smelling foul-type smells before going to bed actually causes wild dreams. It could be anything: (i.e. If you just cleaned a litter box, or you inhaled some moldy-type smells) If you can, try to get some lavender-scented candles or essential oils. Keep these close to your bed and breathe in the aromas before laying down. Lavender is just an example because of it's calming effect. However, if you prefer another pleasant smelling scent, try this. Can't hurt to try, right? Good luck!
