Q: Why is my dog getting small bald spots?
I have a one year old Boxer that has been having some problems. I had taken her to the vet about some rashes she used to get, but they come and go and doesn't seem to bother her. Lately about two weeks ago she started scratching her ears causing scabs on the tops of her ears to where I started to notice she was continously scratching them off and then her ears became inflamed. The vet said she had some yeast in her ears and it was probably from an allergic reaction. So she gave my dog some Benadryl, Amoxicillin, ear drops and Reminyl. She took the antibodic for 8 days. She was supposed to take it for 14 but she had started vomiting, not eating and was experiencing some diaherra. I know I wasn't supposed to stop the antibodic without taking her to the vet first but she wouldn't take it and it was making her sick. She hasn't been taking it for a week now and she's been eating like normal. And her ears are cleared up and she's no longer itchy.
Well now I have noticed some scaly skin on her chest and it looks like the hair has been falling out because it's faded. I have also noticed some small pencil eraser sized bald spots on the side of her face. She's not scratching them and she is her usual playful self. There is two areas on both front legs and it's located at the joints. The hair is there but it feels very dry and looks like the hair is coated with white dandruff. The bald spots are not red appearing nor is it oily. It is just very dry. Does anybody have any idea what it could be? I have called the vet twice and they haven't called me back. I'm going to attempt to call them again tomorrow. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
A: Sounds like Mange to me
