SIDE EFFECTS: The most commonly noted side effects associated with buspirone are dizziness, nausea, headache, nervousness, lightheadedness, excitement, and insomnia. Symptoms of benzodiazepine withdrawal may occur when switching persons from antianxiety medications of the benzodiazepine class (see above) to buspirone since buspirone is not a benzodiazepine. Such a withdrawal reaction may include irritability, agitation, anxiety, insomnia, tremor, or even seizures.

Q: what would Buspirone show as on a drug test?
Does anyone know what Buspirone (the ant-anxiety drug) would show up as on a drug test? Would it be a valium or a benzo?
A: Valium is a benzodiazepine. The answer really depends on what drug test or tests they are using and what markers they are looking for. If the Buspar is under a doctors orders then everything should be fine. This is also not considered by most to be a disqualifying drug.pp
Q: Can buspirone have the side effect of heightened sexual response?
Ove the past month or so, I've noticed a difference in me like night and day. For all my 34 years, I never cared about sex and was even almost turned off by it. Now, I want it all the time. I thought it was due to some changes in my life, but I'm also realizing I started taking 20 mg of buspirone per day for anti-anxiety about the same time this may have started. I'm not complaining. I love the side effect. I just want to know if that's where it's coming from.
A: I googled bupirone and increased libido could be one of the side effects.
Q: How long does it take to get off of Buspirone after taking it and what side effects can occur!?
I've been taking it for for 2 and a half months! 15mg 3x's daily with food. I do feel better but occasionally have anxiety in certain situations! Its said not to be habit forming, but i read in one of the answers that it is hard to get off!
A: I took Buspirone for roughly 7 months. It took about 2 weeks to work its way into my system but after that initial period I felt great. My most notable side effects were weight gain and depletion of my sex drive. Where as I was very perky and felt great I was so isolated emotionally from people in my life. I lived with my then boyfriend and it was hard to see myself putting him through so much and not being able to stop myself ...or not being able to change. I also suffered anxiety/panic attacks during the time I was on the medication which ranged from mild to severe. I didn't follow the suggestions of my physician and went cold turkey off of them without weaning myself. I felt so good I didn't think I needed them anymore. Big mistake....over time I spiraled into a very deep depression and ultimately tried to take my own life. I suggest you take your doctors suggestions seriously and discuss any problems you have prior to taking matters in your own hands. I myself was on 10mg 3x's a day and although I only suffered what I now consider mild "physical" side effects I suffered greater mental ones in the end. COMMUNICATION Talk to someone you feel comfortable with about any changes your scared of or desire to make.
Q: I found Buspirone hydrochloride in my daughters purse i know nothing about pills should se be taking those?
Found it in her purse trying to find out exactly what it is. Your help will be greatly appreciated.
A: Anti-anxiety pills and probably not. I say probably not because I don't know how old she is, her medical history, or mental condition. I am also not a doctor a professional opinion would be best.
Q: Xanax fans, ever hear of Buspar also known as Buspirone Hydrochloride to treat anxiety instead?
It is an anti anxiety medication as well apparently but I can't find much information on it. Anyone know anything about it? Is it as potent and effective as Xanax? Is it crappy crap crap? Your input is appreciated.
A: Wrong section.
Q: What meds. are safe for colds and or allergies when you are taking Lorazepam and Buspirone for anxiety?
My husband takes these two meds. for generalized anxiety disorder with panic attacks he took the cough medicine Delsym and it really aggravated his anxiety so bad he had to take a extra Lorazepam. Help, What can he take for his allergies and cough that won't do that?
A: Look on your prescription bottle and get the number for your pharmacist. Call him and get the right answer.
Q: What is the normal starting dose for Buspar/Buspirone ?
I was on 5mg a day for four months. Doc finally upped it to 10mg a day last month. I still have horrible anxiety manifested by an inability to relax (a little bit OCD, am on this Answers far too much) and by thoughts of the possiblities of horrible things happening to my loved ones, including graphic images of violence (No, I am not afraid I will harm them or myself. I just can't believe the things people do to each other in this world, and it seems to be that my Anxiety is manifested by these fears) I have been told not to watch the news, but I don't think that is the answer. Anyway, currently taking 10mg Buspirone daily, and 20mg Paxil. Prozac didn't work... I read on one of the WebDoc sites that a normal starting dose of Buspar is 15mg a day.
A: Initially 5mg three times a day.
Dosage increased at 3 day intervals 5mg at a time.
Usual maintenance dose is 20-30mg a day in divided doses.
Q: Will taking buspirone solve my social anxiety?
I just started taking it today. Does it solve all anxiety problems?
A: No medicine solves ALL anxiety problems. Medication will make social situations more bearable to you and you may be able function better than you did before. However, if you really want to confront all of your anxiety problems, you may want to look into counseling, in addition to taking buspirone. This may address those underlying reasons (within you) that are causing you to be anxious in social setting, like your self-esteem or beliefs that you may have about yourself or others, even the physiological symptoms you may experience in social settings (rapid heartbeat, sweating, etc).
Good luck!
Q: I just accidentally ate grapefruit after taking Buspirone. It says not to have grapefruit juice on the bottle?
I'm really scared something's going to happen I don't wanna die what do I do?
I read somewhere that it causes the medicine to increase by up to 400%!!!!!!!! I ate about 3/5 of the grape fruit how will this harm me?
A: Drinking just one glass of grapefruit juice or eating a single grapefruit can significantly interfere with the body's ability to eliminate certain drugs. So these drugs may be present at higher-than-normal levels, which can increase the risk of drug side effects. This interference occurs even when these drugs are taken several hours after a grapefruit snack. Other citrus juices such as orange juice don't affect drugs this way. You will be fine but if you do begin to experience any other side effects, seek medical advice.
Hope I helped.
Good luck and have a nice day (:
Q: How long does BuSpar (buspirone) take to kick in?
For those of you who have found BuSpar to relieve anxiety, how long had you been taking it before you felt it working?
A: Hi Cisco,
My Daughter was taking the Buspar. When it's your first time, the usual it takes 4 weeks to get the full effects, but in 2 weeks, you will feel better. Let me caution you, though------- this medicine helped her for a short while, then it lost it's effect and caused her worse Anxiety and paranoia you wouldn't believe! Crying spells and her fears escalated, it was HORRIBLE! Make sure with your Dr. that you have the symptoms that this medicine treats, or else it has opposite side effects you don't want.! Please go over this with your Dr. about Buspar, ok?
Take care!
BTW-----My Daughter is now on Zoloft and it works real well for her. She isn't any longer irritated and the Buspar caused this to happen.!
Q: What would the drug Buspirone (ant-anxiety drug) show up as on a drug screening?
Would it show up as a benzo or valium, or nothing at all?
Thanks!
A: No; also, its not an illegal substance, so no worries. Its not a benzodiazepine either; even if it was, they don't screen for benzos on standard drug tests.
Q: Are Buspirone bars generic for Xanax bars? Do they have the same effect as xanax bars?
Bars, or totem polls, are rectangular tablets that have breakable sections.
A: Not generic, totally different make up. Xanax is a benzodiazapene (tranquilizer, mild muscle relaxer) and a controlled substance which can be addictive. Buspirone works with the serotonin and can take up to three weeks for relief. Bennies are immediate relief. They both are for GAD and can be used with other anti depressants. Bennies are usually prescribed first because they usually work better and quicker, then switched to Buspirone to avoid dependency.
What is "bars", BTW? Ohhh. You from UK? I've never seen Buspirone, but Xanax is usually round or oval, so that threw me. Hope this helped!
Q: Can They Test for Buspirone in your system?
is there a urine or blood test to see if you're taking this medication?
A: A standard drug test will not test for this drug in your system, but a specific lab test can detect the drug. There is a test for any drug that the human body can consume if they professionals know what to look for. Standard drug test are 5 panel and test for these drugs.
The SAMHSA-5 #
Federal government guidelines (by SAMHSA-the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) require that companies which use commercial class drivers licenses for employees must have a testing system in place. Among other things, this required testing program must test for 5 specific categories of drugs (referred to as the "SAMHSA 5", previously called the "NIDA-5"). Because of this federal requirement, most drug testing companies offer a basic drug test that checks for drugs in these 5 common categories. Click on the substance name for a description of the laboratory method for detecting the substance.
