Q: NuvaRing ?
I just started NuvaRing three weeks ago. I recently started having a buring sensation during sex (we always use lube so it wasn't dry) and then today I noticed my discharge has turned very thick and yellow. Is this a side effect or do you think it could be a yeast infection? I've never had a yeast infection before, can the doctors test for it?

A: Most likely, it is both a side effect and a yeast infection. Symptoms of a yeast infection include burning or itching and thick, clumpy white-yellow discharge. These are actually quite common with the Nuva Ring, if you have many more in the next few months then they will probably switch you to a different method. The doctor will be able to identify it right away, and you should definitely see a doctor if you have never had a yeast infection before to make sure that's actually what it is. The NuvaRing can cause an increase in discharge for some women. When I used it, I noticed it to a degree but it was thinner and clearish-white and never burned. So I would reccomend getting it checked. Remember to have your partner treated for the yeast infection as well, because otherwise he will keep giving it to you. If you do have a yeast infection, an over the counter anti-fungal cream should be rubbed on the tip of his penis for several days. Don't have sex while either of you is being treated. Good luck, hope everything works out :)

Q: nuvaring??
i been on the nuvaring for about three months...and every month i have an increase of discharge (white discharge) it is not irretated or anything of that sort. I would like to know if anyone else experienced this. If it is possible can you tell me what you went through with the nuvaring when it came to changes or your discharge?? srry for asking for imformation..i just want to know ... going to the doctor next week to make sure everything is okay...thanks for all the answers!

A: I have been on the Nuva Ring for about six months and I noticed an increase in discharge (white, not smelly) after I take it out. My doctor says nothing is wrong and if it doesn't really bother me than not to worry.

Q: Nuvaring ?????
Does anyone know how the effectiveness of the Nuvaring is affected if left out of the body for nine hours by accident during the second week of your cycle? Nuvaring prevents ovulation, does anyone know if you will ovulate from leaving it out? Thanks! ACCIDENTALLY was the key word. Really though thank you for the info.

A: This is the info from rxlist.com- a reputable drug info source.. I guess the bottom line is to use back up for 7days. NOT 2 months! Hope this helps If NuvaRing® is out of the vagina for more than three continuous hours: During Weeks 1 and 2: If NuvaRing® has been out of the vagina for more than three continuous hours during the 1st or 2nd week of use, contraceptive efficacy may be reduced. The woman should reinsert the ring as soon as she remembers. A barrier method such as condoms or spermicides must be used until the ring has been used continuously for seven days. During Week 3: If NuvaRing® has been out of the vagina for more than three continuous hours during the 3rd week of the three-week use period, the woman should discard that ring. One of the following two options should be chosen: Insert a new ring immediately. Inserting a new ring will start the next three-week use period. The woman may not experience a withdrawal bleed from her previous cycle. However, breakthrough spotting or bleeding may occur. Have a withdrawal bleeding and insert a new ring no later than seven days (7x24 hours) from the time the previous ring was removed or expelled. This option should only be chosen if the ring was used continuously for the preceding seven days. A barrier method such as condoms or spermicides must be used until the new ring has been used continuously for seven days.

Q: How long after I insert my Nuvaring should my period stop?
This is the first month I am using Nuvaring. I am used to having longer periods, though I know using Nuvaring should shorten them. However the packaging says to still insert a new ring even if you're still bleeding. So if my period is still continuing by the time I'm ready for a new one, how long should it take for my period to stop once a new ring has been inserted?

A: IDK My doctor told me to put it in after my period and and after 3 weeks take it out to get my period. I prefer to have it out when I get my period because I dont really have sex while im on it Id rather have it in while im not on my period.

Q: How long after taking Nuvaring out should you start your period?
I took mine out on the 25th and today is the 28th? this is my first time using the nuvaring when can i expect a period?

A: I am wondering the same thing, i took mine out yesterday and still no period. I'm calling my doctor tomorrow morning to ask her. Okay so I talked to my doctor and she said that usually the first time it isn't going to come exactly when you take the ring out and that the hormones can throw your routine off.

Q: What happens when you leave the nuvaring for an extra week?
I got the days all mixed up so i forgot to take my nuvaring out on the 4th week. Should i take it out and start it all over the next month or should i take it out for a week and put another one back in a week?

A: If you leave the Ring in you may skip your period. I've met a couple women that have used the Ring as a way to stop their period. I would recommend checking with your doctor as well to see what they say.

Q: How do you feel about the Nuvaring form of birth control?
I recently switched from birth control pills to the Nuvaring after I had a miscarriage. Out of curiosity I looked online at a product review for it and all I saw were horror stories. Is it really that bad? Does it really cause horrible weight gain, nausea, and decreased sex drive?

A: Weight is a big issue for many people, especially those trying to lose it. I tried colon cleanse and it certainly worked for me. There's a free trial happening at the moment at http://seback.yourlosefatpro.info , why not check it out, what is the worst that could happen?

Q: How long will the nuvaring take to take effect?
I started using the nuvaring 4 days after my period stopped and I've never had a regular period. How long will the nuvaring take effect in? I've heard 7 days and I've heard wait a whole cycle. Any idea?

A: Well, they usually say 7 days if you insert it between day 1 and 5 of your period. However, I would recommend waiting one full cycle until you stop using a barrier method of protection because you just never know when you start birth control later in your cycle than what you should.

Q: What are the consequences of not putting Nuvaring in before the 5th day of my menstrual cycle?
I put nuvaring in the 7th day of my cycle. I was wondering what the consequences of this are? Do I need to use a back up method for the normal 7 days or do I need to wait until the next cycle and should I put it in before the 5th day then or on the same day as I inserted it this time?

A: Are you inserting Nuvaring for the first time? If so, you can start on your 7th day (it's the quickstart method), but you do have to use back up for 7 days and you may experience some spotting until the ring regulates your cycle. Once you put the ring in for the first time, you keep it in for three weeks, remove it for one week, then insert a new one. When you insert it has nothing to do with when you start cycle after the first time. http://www.nuvaring.com answers a lot of questions.

Q: I am on the Nuvaring. Is it safe to have unprotected sex during the week that the ring is out?
I've been on the nuvaring for a few months. I just want to know if I would get pregnant if I had unprotected sex during the week that the ring is scheduled to be out.

A: I got pregnant on Nuvaring and I had been using it correctly for YEARS.

Q: How effective is the NuvaRing compared to other birth control?
My gf started using the NuvaRing and I wanted to know if it was comparable to other forms of bc.

A: Yes, it has the same effectiveness without her having to take a pill everyday. Its is VERY effective, i take it and i think its like 99% (the same as normal birth control) so don't worry guy, you can come inside her!

Q: Can you start the Nuvaring if you are not on your period?
This is the 1st Nuvaring being used. No previous hormonal birth control used.

A: yes.. when I was talking my nuvaring the doctor suggested I start on the first of the month and take it out on the 25th of each month he said it would be a lot easier to remember when to put it in and take it out every month.. and it was =)

Q: When is the best time to start nuvaring?
I've never been on birth control and decided to start nuvaring. Today is the first day of my period when should i insert it? When i was getting the prescription the doc said just put it in on a Sunday but that's 7 days from now, on the nuvaring website it says no later then 5 days after the start of your period. So i'm just wondering when should i put it in. Today or wait 5 days? Oh and how fast does it start working? Thanks in advance.

A: Start it right away. There is no best time to put it in. Use a backup for a week and you'll be fine. :)

Q: How soon after using nuvaring did you become pregnant?
After my cycle last month I didn't put in a new ring and now my breast are tender, could I be pregnant? We are trying and my ovulation date was on the 13 of December. Has anyone gotten pregnant right after taking the nuvaring out or any other method of BC?

A: I'm on nuvaring and am not ttc however you are able to get pregnant right after going off BC...doesn't mean you will, could still take a few months but it's possible. I got pregnant twice the 1st month after going off BC.

Q: How do I get NuvaRing to fit around the cervix?
I just inserted NuvaRing for the first time today and I want it to fit around the cervix, but I don't understand how this would be possible? I pushed it up as far as I could, but it's still too far down.

A: It's not meant to fit around the cervix. You just insert it and it adjusts itself and seats itself where it should go.
