Q: How long can it take to get pregnant after you have been on ortho tri-cyclen lo 28?
I have been on ortho tri-cyclen lo for almost 3years. Me and my boyfriend have been together that whole time. Im 20years old now and I want to have a baby. I stoped taking the pill on Jan 21st, 2008 and I started spotting on Jan 24th its like a brown spotting and when I wipe there is some redish color is this normal? And am I going at a normal speed to get back on my cycle?

A: After stopping the pill, it could take up to 6 months for your hormones to get back to normal mode. It is normal to experience spotting or to experience bleeding between periods and it is also normal to not even have a period for a few months. BUT, that does not mean that you cannot get pregnant. I was on the pill for 10 years and once I got off, I was pregnant within the first month. But, on the other hand, I am trying for my second child and got off the pill in September and nothing has happened yet. So, it all depends on your hormones and your ovulation time. Good luck to you.

Q: Ortho tri cyclen lo, when will my period start?
How many green pills do you go thru before your period starts? I'm on my first pack of Ortho tri cyclen lo. I started on Sunday 7/9 taking the 28 day pack. I have a trip coming up the weekend of Aug 3rd. I was wondering if my period will come during that time??? Thank you!

A: When was your last period? Count 28 days from then and your period should start. I was taking the same thing and it never changed the timing of my cycle it just prevented pregnancy,

Q: breakthrough bleeding while on Ortho Tri-cyclen Lo, normal?
im on my first month of taking the 28 pack of Ortho Tri-cyclen Lo. i started it on the first day of my period as my doctor prescribed and im on day 13. ive been taking my pill on time and i had my regular period, but it only stopped for two days and then i started to bleed again. it started as light pink spotting but now it has gotten heavier and is dark blood. its been happening all this week so far and im not sure if i should be concerned.. ( the bleeding stops at night )

A: I took Ortho Tri-cyclen for 2 years, and at first I didn't have any breakthrough bleeding, but after about a year I started having a TON of it, around 3-5 days a week. I'd give the pill at least 3 months, b/c it takes time for your body to adjust to the hormones. If it's not better by the end of your 3rd pack, I'd consult your doctor. Best of luck to you.

Q: I need help understanding Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo.?
1st question: Which start date is better: today when I got my period or next Sunday when my period will probably be finish. What's the difference? 2nd question: If I decide to start today, do I use the first white pill until the whole pack is finish? 3rd question: Why is there only 28 pills for Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo. There is more than 28 days in a month. After the 28 day and pill do I immediately use the other pack and start on day one? 4th question: Do I have to use the pill pack or dial pak the Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo pills came with? Please help gals. Thanks in advance

A: When I was prescribed Ortho tri-cy lo, my doctor had me start on the first Sunday after menstruation began. The dial pack is pre-set for a Sunday start. Meaning, the first pill in the pack is set on Sunday. There is only one way to put the pills in the dial pack as they have a groove at the top that corresponds with the groove at the top of the pill pack. You start with the first pill (white) and take them until the whole pack is finished. There are 28 pills because most cycles are 28 days long. It has nothing to do with the days in the month. Yes you start the next pack after you finish the first one. I would use the pill pack it came with just because it is easier to get the pills out and it is to help remind you if you took the pill that day (for example, say it is thursday and your dial is on thursday and the pill is gone, you must have already taken it for that day). Ortho-tri-lo has 21 active pills (pills with the medicine in it) and 7 reminder pills (sugar pills just to keep you in the practice of taking one every day) In answer to your first question, you can take them as best for you. If it would be easier for you to start on the sunday after your period starts, do that (that is how the dial pack is designed) if you would rather start on the first day of your period, then that is fine too. You just need to remember to take one every day at the SAME TIME for it to be effective. Also, you should use an alternative form of birth control as well during your first cycle on ortho-tri-lo. Luck!

Q: Ortho tri-cyclen lo ? when to take them ?
I just got some ORTHO TRI-CYCLEN lo birth control pills (28 days packet) my doctor told me to start taking them the FIRST day of my period, but on the instructions it says to take them on the first sunday of my period. So what if i get my period on a day other than a sunday, do I wait until the first sunday, or I begin to take them the first day ? thanks!

A: Your doctors advice allows the birth control to become effective more quickly than if you took it on the sunday following the start of your period. Waiting a whole month is best for ensuring effectiveness but it generally only takes 7 days. So with that method you drop one week from the duration you need to use another form of protection. It does increase the chance that your period can run a little longer than it would, but that's not really an issue. Spotting/Breakthrough bleeding is common for the first few months anyway. It's just what happens as the hormone begins to take affect. In terms of physiology and biological function, there are no drawbacks to starting BC on any given day of the week. Sundays just tend to be the convenient start day.

Q: Switching birth control from tri-sprintec to ortho tri-cyclen lo?
My insurance decided to no longer cover me and i was forced to go to planned parenthood for birth control. While i was with my insurance they had me on Tri-Sprintec (norgestimate and ethinyl estradiol tablets-triphasic regimen)(28). Now I will be switching to Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo (norgestimate/ethinyl estradiol)(28) Has anyone had any complications doing this? Will it affect the effectiveness of the pills as I'm making the switch? How will this affect my sex drive/mood/period? Does one contain less estrogen than the other or is one the generic for the other?

A: It has the exact same amount of Norgestimate and they both have 35mg of estrogen. So they are the exact same combination of hormones only difference is most likely fillers and the company name. So no complications no change in effectiveness, no difference in sex/mood/period change. They are both also triphasic pills so basically the same exact thing

Q: How strong is Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo the birth control?
I'm sorry I dont know how many milligrams it is. It's a 28 day regimen & it's generic. I'm jw how strong it mite be if anyone could tell me (& yes I mean strong as in me NOT getting knocked up)

A: .025mg of estrogen (ethinyl estradiol) (constant dose thru out the month) The dose of progestin changes every week (hence tri-cyclen) 1st week: 0.15 progestin (norgestimate) 2nd week: 0.215 progestin (norgestimate) 3rd week: 0.25 progestin (norgestimate) It is on the low end of strength but it doesn't matter. Even with doses of estrogen as low as .020mg (yours has .025mg) the pill is still over 99% effective when taken correctly. If you are over 155lbs, it is reccomended that you take a pill with at least .03-.035 mg of estrogen, but the difference in effectiveness is minute. Don't worry.

Q: Ortho Tri Cyelen Lo VS Ortho Tri Cyclen?
I've been on OTC-Lo for about a year now. For some reason, I just started having bad side effects last month. My doctor said I needed a pill with stronger hormones. I was at the gyn office and noticed the stirrups had Loestrin-24 covers. Go figure, it's what the dr put me on AND it's one of the most expensive ones. She probably gets some incentive for prescribing it. I talked to the pharmacist and she told me it's a lot like YAZ (which I used for 3 months before OTC-Lo and had to stop using it because I had the most AWFUL reaction to it). I really liked OTC-Lo (until this month) and since she said I needed a stronger version of it, I asked to be put on regular Ortho Tri Cyclen (well, a generic of it called Tri-Sprintec 28). It's only $9/month (woo hoo!) :) How is Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo different from the regular one? And What are the side effects of the regular one. Any good/bad stories? Also, my boobs finally got a little bigger this month, too. They've been like barely B since I was about 14. Now I'm definitely C. Do you think the new birth control will affect their size either negatively or positively?

A: Regular OTC just has more estrogen. OTC has standard side effects for a birth control pill. It is good for acne and hirsutism, though. Loestrin-24 is one of the worst for acne.

Q: what is the generic birth control pill equivalent to ortho tri cyclen l?
My insurance barely covers any of the cost of this prescription and its $50 a month (for 28 pills) it's a bit ridiculous, I'm only 20. But I'm really happy with ortho tri-cyclen lo. Please help, thanks!

A: There is no generic for ortho tri-cyclen lo, but there is a generic for regular ortho tri-cyclen. Call your prescriber, and ask for a prescription for that medication. Cash price for generic Ortho tri-cyclen range from $9-$28.

Q: Please Read - Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo?
I am currently on Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo.. I switched onto it from being on Yasmin which was too strong for me... i am currently on pill 12 out of 28. on pill 6 i had alcohol that night and then my boyfriend and i had sex.. the next day i didn't take my pill until afternoon ... which the time i take the pill varies everyday.. then on tuesday pill 10 my boyfriend and i had sex around 1:00 p.m. and i didn't take my pill until about 2:00 .. and then on wednesday i didnt take pill 11 until around 5 or 6 .. i also took many cold/flu pills on wednesday.. and now on thrusday i didnt take it until around 2 or after.. somedays i take it earlier some days i take it way way later... My ovulation day began on the 4th of July ... (if that helps any) .. I heard that Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo doesn't work well .. so i'm just wonder how much of a risk am i taking? Also, tomorrow i am going to the doctor due to a sore throat.. if she gives me medicine for my throat will it throw off my birth control even more? MORE ANSWERS PLEASE

A: I've also heard that the Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo isn't as effective as other pills (I was on Yasmin as well and loved it, but everyones different) Um...taking anti-biotics makes you more susceptible to pregnancy because of the effect it has on the b.c. but regular cold medicine is fine. As you probably know having sex protected or unprotected there's is always a chance of pregnancy. But if I had to bet 100 dollars on weather you were pregnant or not I'd say you're probably not. Just keep taking your pills and wait to see if you get period next month.

Q: On ortho tri-cyclen lo, could I be pregnant?
I'm currently on my first pack of birth control pills (ortho tri-cyclen lo) and I just took my 20th pill and decided to have unprotected sex with my boyfriend. We're both STD free, no concerns there, and in a monogamous relationship. He came only once and it wasn't inside of me...I didn't wait until I finished my whole pack either just because the rest of pills are placebo. The pamphlet the pills come with say I should wait for 7 days until I have sex, but I waited longer than that, so is it possible that I'm protected already? Or should I have waited until I was done with my whole 28 day pack?

A: yes thats rite

Q: Question about Ortho Tri-cyclen Lo and Pregnancy?
I was previously a virgin but had intercourse for the first time tonight. My girlfriend is 21 years old and has been on ortho tri-cyclen lo for 5 days. I did ejaculate inside her (after first ejaculating outside of her without penetration about 30 minutes prior). We used 2 spermicidal films, however I don't know that they were as close to the cervix as they should have been. Her shortest cycle is 28-29 days and goes as long as 31-33 days (approx). The start of her last period was May 29, 2009 and it ended on June 3, 2009 (which she reported was a short duration for her.) I had read that the chances of getting pregnant after only 5 days of the pills is " very high." My questions are: are the chances of pregnancy higher than with no pill or lower even if only taken for 5 days? Also based on this information I wonder in someone else's opinion realistically what are the chances she would become pregnant? (I.E. high probability, maybe, low probability, or very low probability.) I thank you for any responses.

A: After 5 days it would be lower than with no pill I reckon, but it's still possible. It depends when she started it though. If it was the first active pill on the first day of her period, then it's less likely.

Q: Anyone know anything about the birth control pill Ortho Tri-Cyclen lo Tablets?
For the 1st time in my life I started taking this type of birth control pill -to regulate my cycle primarily. According to the packet insert, you can start your 1st pack on a Sunday after the period or the 1st day of your period. I started on the Sunday after the period started. My period did not come within 28 days. Surprisingly, it came on the 34th day. So I did not start the new pack yet. I was waiting for my period to restart to start the next pack on the Sunday after. I am unsure and a bit confused if I am doing the right thing or not. Should I wait every month for my period to start to continue to take the pills? What is the correct way, step- by- step to take it to regulate the cycle and prevent pregnancy?

A: Hello. This is quite a good question. First of all, it does not matter what day you start this birth control pill, but Sundays are easier because it allows your bleeding to occur on weekdays as opposed to weekends since the bleeding will begin 3-4 days after stopping the regular pill and switching to the placebo pill or no pill. Ok, now to your question: how should you be taking the pill to prevent pregnancy. Well, you should be taking it exactly as prescribed, and actually pay no mind to when the actual withdrawal bleeding is taking place. I don't know why your bleeding did not take place in the last week of the package (between days 22-28). You should be taking one pill daily, and as soon as a package is done, you should be starting the next package and not taking days off just because of the bleeding. Also, since you just started this particular brand of birth-control pill, it may take a little time to have your body adjust- give it two more cycles. If you are still not bleeding in the last week of your package, and you really really want the withdrawal bleed, then you need to return to your prescribing doctor and change to another brand. I would personally recommend one that is not a tri-cyclic, but just a monophasic, but that's a whole other discussion. For more information, type in "managing contraception"- its a great book referenced by doctors to which I believe there is online access. Oh, and one big important thing: take your birth control pill at the SAME TIME every day, or yes, your risk of getting pregnant goes up immensely!

Q: Is this a normal symptom of birth control (Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo)?
Well, I just started my birth control (Ortho tri cyclen lo )on August 3rd. I got it from my schools health clinic. I started my period on the 28th september. & I was on it for a few hours that day, and then I got off of it. then when I took the green pill that morning before I went to school & when I got in 3rd block I started it again. about an hour later I got off of it again, and now I'm completely off of it. Is that normal? & about 2 weeks agao I noticed that my stomach was very hard like at the sides of my belly button. I went back to the clinic a week ago for a pap smear, and they told me that I had a bladder infection, would that be the cause of my stomach being hard? I asked the doctor that gave me the birth control could birth control cause my stomach to be hard, and my breasts bigger. she said that it could make my breasts bigger but it shouldn't be making my tummy hard. because it's a "very low hormone" birthcontrol. & also I've never had acne, just breakouts every now & then. but now I have acne really bad. Is any of that normal? or is any of you experiencing the *Is anyone experiencing the same thing?

A: I have been on the same pill for a few years now.And its suppose to make your skin better. But since you haven't been taking it all that long it could be because your body isn't use to the hormones yet and needs time to adjust.I heard it could take up to three months. It sounds like you are having some break through bleeding or spotting. It is normal again still has to do with the fact your body isn't use to taking the pill.I haven't really had any side effects on this pill other than my boobs hurt sometimes and i get mood swings. As for your stomache hardening I don't believe thats from the pill.

Q: question about ortho tri cyclen lo (birth control pill)?
