Q: Ortho-Evra?
anyone on the birth control patch called ortho evra. How does it compare to the pill? On average how does it cost. I've done my research on it I know how it works, but I want personal opinions now. Do you like the patch? Any sideffects? Do you need to get an exam first? Any answers you have for me would be appreciated.
Thanks!
I know how the patch works, I want specifics. How much does it cost. From ppl that are on it do they prefer the pill to the patch or vice versa?
A: the patch is just the same as the pill. it has the same posibility of getting pregnant which is 90% if used perfectly every time. basically taking the pill and using the patch are the same just different because they are used different. if you are overweight though there is a higher risk of getting pregnant.
Q: Ortho Evra?
Did your skin clear up after starting ortho evra? How long until you noticed a difference?
How much weight might I gain?
A: Most birth controls switch around the hormones a bit, and this helps with acne. It might not be a huge difference, maybe just fewer pimples. You might gain a bit of weight, but probably not very much and if you notice yourself wanting to munch food alot, just make sure it's healthy food and not junk and you'll be ok. You can also ask the doctor/nurse who wrote you the prescription what to expect.
Q: ortho evra?
this is my first cycle using ortho evra. i was told to put on the patch on the 3rd days of my period, which fell on a thursday. it has been 3 weeks and now i am supposed to take off my patch, however, i am not expecting my period until next week. will i still be protected during sex even though i have no patch on and i am not currently having my period?
thank you
A: Yes. It's taking the patch off that actually prompts your period to arrive.
YOu can only get pregnant if you ovulated. The patch prevents that. Taking it off doesn't make you ovulate, it just brings on your period.
Removing the patch is just like the "sugar pills" they include after 3 weeks of 'hormone pills' when you are on the pill.
Q: How long after stopping Ortho Evra does it take to get pregnant?
I know it is RECOMMENDED to wait until your menstrual cycle becomes regular to TTC, but I just wanted to know how long after stopping the use of the Ortho Evra patch does it take to get pregnant? Some people said 24 hrs, some said a year...Thanks!
I was on Ortho Evra for only 11 months. My last period started July 19, I ovulated on Aug 2.
A: My sister is a medical transcriptionist and has transcribed for an OB that reported some of her patients that concieved while still using the patch!
You really need to be careful with this patch! I developed pulmonary emboli in both lungs because of this and have met several others who developed clots that caused strokes and other serious problems. The symptoms sneak up on you, so be CAREFUL!
I don't have anything good to say about this patch and want to tell as many people as possible about the dangers of this drug!
I'm glad you're not using it any longer and hope that you concieve as soon as you're ready. Good luck to you.
Q: How much does the Ortho Evra Patch cost at Planned Parenthood without insurance?
I'm currently on the pill but want something a little easier, so I'm thinking of using the Ortho Evra patch, but I'm just not sure how much it'll cost at Planned Parenthood. Without insurance, about how much would the appointment plus the patches cost?
A: They generally go on a sliding scale. So It depends on how much you make. Sometimes The ask to do a pap smear. The cost for a months supply of birth control is $22 or $60 for 3 months
Q: When to plan a baby after being on Ortho-Evra birth control patch for 2 years, came off of it last month?
I have been on Ortho-Evra birth control path for two years. I stopped it last month. So now, how do I go about planning my baby now? I do have an appointment with my doctor in a few weeks. But wanted to start doing things and taking care immediately. Would appreciate your advice.
A: it sounds like your on the right track. going to see your doctor, maybe starting to take some folic acid soon. i got pregnate while i was ON the patch so im sure givin no problems you should be able to concieve quickly...start tracking your menstral and ovulation cycles. you can even go as far as keeping track of your cervical mucus. i wouldnt go that far unless its been a few months....good luck to you...your doing everything right.
Q: Ortho-Evra:How do you know if you have a blood clot in your leg?
I have been taking Ortho-Evra for a year and i have a lil pain in my lower calf of my leg. It doesn't hurt when i walk but when i stoop down putting a lot of pressure on my calf it's hurt alot. Is this a sign of a blood clot. Please let me know....
A: Sometimes it is really hard to tell your best bet is to not risk it and go to the doctor to be evaluated fully.
Q: How do you keep an Ortho Evra patch clean?
I jut started using an Ortho Evra (birth control) patch, and I've noticed that the adhesive is seeping out of the sides and catching lint and other debris on my skin. Is there any way to gently clean this excess adhesive off without compromising the effectiveness of the patch?
A: I have been told not to try to clean the area because you could cause the adhesive to loosen. I know baby oil works good for cleaning the excess after you take the patch off.
Q: How much money should I expect from the Ortho Evra class action lawsuit?
I've never been involved in a class action lawsuit. I don't know how many people are involved in the Ortho Evra lawsuit, either. I'm just wondering how much I should expect to get from it because I'm trying to plan how to spend any money I might get.
A: I didn't know that they even had a CAL against them. Dont' expect to get anything, after the sharks, I mean lawyers, take their "fees".
I used it for almost 2 yrs and never had any side effects. I stopped after everything I read.
Q: when does the contraceptive Ortho Evra start working for protecting against pregnancy?
when does the contriceptive Ortho Evra start working for protecting against pregnancy?
A: Any type of birth control it is said to use back up for the first month then you should be fine. If your using the Ortho Evra patch I would reconsider. My doctor pulled me off of it 3 years ago due to one of her patients becoming seriously ill on it. She said most places push it on people because they get a HUGE commission on it. But she said it's not worth getting people sick and she wanted no part of it. There have also been about 3 deaths linked to it as well since it came out. Use the pill, it's been around longer and is much safer. And thank you for being responsible and taking a form of birth control :D
Q: Am I protected from pregnancy during the fourth week of Ortho Evra?
This is my first month on Ortho Evra (The Patch) and I was wondering since I don't start my period until a couple of days after I remove the last patch am I still protected from pregnancy? Am I protected for the whole week that I am not on the patch?
A: Yes you are.
Q: What do you know about Ortho Evra patches?
I am considering going on the Ortho Evra birth control patch. I would like to hear from those of you who have used or are using it. Do you like it? Any weird side effects?
A: I have been on it for three months, the first two were kind of tricky,I had little chest pain and I started getting scared after all the scandal but decided to give it a little more time to see if they were just temporary side effects this month was ok...I was also worried about how much dettachment was considered "dettached" I got too frustrated about that I thought it had to be stuck to the skin like crazy glue but a little lifting is ok if it then sticks back.Overall it's ok...now I am scared to go off of it because it is working well for me.I'm afraid that if I switch I might get pregnant.I also haven't gained any weight and my period is regular again since I just had a baby 7 months ago.But I also understand that it's not for everyone.Go to the website, you will find lots of answers and information there.
Q: how do you get rid of the rash ortho evra gives you?
I just started ortho evra, and where i placed the patch, it's broken out into a huge rash. does that go away, and what do i put on the rash to make it go away?
A: read the package.. I didn't have any rash, sometimes just a bit red from wearing it for a week.. but I think rashes were in the "talk to your doctor if" section of the booklet (they have it online too if you didn't keep it)..
since you just started I'll give you a heads up.. I was on it for a few months.. one day I was in the sun a bit too long, later that day you could see where every patch I had ever put on had been (lol) it was freaky, but apparently is normal - just try not to get too much sun if you don't want to walk around looking like patchwork..
Q: What kind of withdrawals can I expect from Ortho Evra?
I have been using the Ortho Evra patch for about two years now, and am thinking about stopping because of all the controversy surrounding it lately. Will I suffer from any sort of withdrawals after I stop taking it?
A: No, I stopped using it and lost 16 pounds of water weight. Good thing, apparently.
Q: How does "the pill" work? Compare Norplant, Depo-Provera, NuvaRing and Ortho Evra as contraception approaches?
How does "the pill" work? Compare Norplant, Depo-Provera, NuvaRing and Ortho Evra as contraception approaches. How does each work and what is the "failure rate" for each.
A: I don't know about all of them but I do know that the pill has to be taken daily and at the same time. You miss a day and you increase your risk of getting pregnant. If you are a smoker or over a certain age they do not recommend you take the pill. The patches are recommended for very slim women. Not effective if you are over a certain weight. The Depo-Provera shot is given once every 3 months or 6 months...I forgot which. It has been awhile since I was on it. It is easier to have the shot because it is pretty effective and you only have to worry about it the times I listed above. Although, I do not recommend the shot. It can cause weight gain, some women have heavier periods, some have no periods at all. I had one right before I was due for the shot. It took a long time for my periods to become regular again after getting off the shot. It has also been said to cause Osteoperosis when used for awhile. It made me have symptoms similar to going through menopause. I didn't realize it was the shot making me ill and have other problems until I had been on it awhile.
